The first of Kenyon's goodly race
Was that great man Philander Chase;
He climbed the Hill and said a prayer,
And founded Kenyon College there.

Yikes! I hope that horrid old set of verses wasn't set to music!
It is interesting to me that all the early colleges and universities were founded on religious principles... competing ones, at that. A hold-over from the old world, and an interesting history that folks could do with being reminded of from time to time.
Oh, yes, the Kenyon freshman are required to sing this one every year, along with a couple of other Kenyoniana.
Aack! I am so sorry to hear--I mean I am sure that is a quaint practice. Hopefully, this is in lieu of other traditional college hazing? ;-)
