I'm not quite sure what to say about this...

But it seems like something I ought to post.

It's a bookshelf...

that turns into a coffin!

No, I am not making this up.

The description says, "These shelves are designed to last you a lifetime." And a bit more, apparently.

Found on the Bookalicio.us blog.

(OK, I confess. I think this is kind of cool, actually.)

Blimey - that would take the denial out of death - every time you reach for a book you'd be reminded

Okay --I kinda think that's cool too. Trouble is, you would have to NOT lose the instructions! --maybe stapled to the back of one of the pieces..... that would do.

Good news: The original articles specifies that the instructions are on a brass plaque on the bottom shelf - after following them to put the coffin together, your loved ones can turn the plaque over and engrave the reverse side with your name and dates.

New question: If you put yourself in the coffin, where do you put all your books?!

I was wondering about where you'd put the books, too. Maybe you could rest the coffin on stacks of books for the viewing.

I guess this is a way for bibliophiles to try to imitate the Ancient Egyptians and take treasured items to the afterlife?
