I'll look forward to meeting Jesus in the garden again next week - Mary Magdalene's resurrection encounter has always been one of my favorite passages of the Bible. In the meantime, though, I'm going to take a deep breath and prepare to do my poor best to enter the mystery of the passion before Easter arrives.

It is astounding to me how many campus conferences are taking place this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I plan to ignore all of them and turn inward for awhile.

However you spend your Holy Week, I hope it will be a blessed time for you as well.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5044820951794078204.post-49169771113912124272010-03-30T19:18:24.920-07:002010-03-30T19:18:24.920-07:00That's crazy! For us today we had the Greeks going to Philip who goes to Andrew who goes to Jesus who says, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified." But I'm guessing that's the Eucharistic reading. I have no idea why you got the garden reading.LKThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05791517233920008067noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5044820951794078204.post-77655388127677169532010-03-30T09:16:09.191-07:002010-03-30T09:16:09.191-07:00as we are speaking of the order of Holy Week, may ...as we are speaking of the order of Holy Week, may I add a note about how disoriented I was to go to church this morning and discover that the gospel reading was about Mary Magdalene's encounter with Jesus in the garden? Hello - how can he be risen from the dead on Tuesday morning if I am going to celebrate his last supper on Thursday evening?

I know God's time and human time are rarely one and the same, but I don't get this arrangement at all. Can someone explain this lectionary choice to me?

Yours gratefully,

confused and, of course, anonymousAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5044820951794078204.post-48121887477420227882010-03-30T08:30:04.286-07:002010-03-30T08:30:04.286-07:00Yeah, it's become a portmanteau service and I&...Yeah, it's become a portmanteau service and I'm not sure there's a need for that. It seems like we should just stick with the triumphal entry on Sunday, since we get to the crucifixion on Friday. The whole thing seems like a big "Get Out of Good Friday Free" card, somehow assuming that we won't see people again until Easter, so we'd better remind them about the cross bits.

The shoe cartoon is awesome.Scott Gunnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04775271116737644034noreply@blogger.com
